ARTIST BIO/STATEMENT/CV

ARTIST BIO American artist, Maryam Ali (b. 1985) is a nationally collected, freelance artist best known for her contemporary visual art pieces using mixed media. With equal creative passion and talent in photography, abstract mixed media, creative writing, and creative directing she creates narrative and non-narrative art in different mediums that is about feeling, emotions and moods evoked. Entirely self taught, Maryam has been in touch with her creative abilities since a young child and has used art as a way to express what most eludes her. Creativity has always been a talent/skill she uses to maneuver through, deconstruct, reinvent and refresh aspects of her life. Her art influences include Pablo Picasso, Matisse, Frida Kahlo, Dorothy Ganek, Anthony Lister, Basquiat, and her own personal muses in entertainment, fashion, film, real estate, culinary arts and philanthropy. In 2018, Maryam’s art was showcased at two local Atlanta art exhibitions: “Trips Around the Sun” & “One Word” and she has also curated two exhibitions of her own (Seasons, 2018 and Armour, 2019). She has acquired several national collectors and clients of her art and creative services since deciding to pursue arts professionally and is continually evolving and maturing as an artist on different platforms. In 2014, she developed and created her brand "Chesapeake Avenue" to create a home for her many passions. ARTIST STATEMENT My art is conceived through a cathartic method and I use it as a way to express what I can’t sometimes express emotionally or verbally in everyday life. Full of emotion, layers, textures, vulnerability and truthfulness… I have no directions or rules I follow when I am creating. When I am truly in it I feel outside of it as if the brush, or pen, or needle is stroking itself. Through my art I feel hidden and safe yet fully exposed. Through my art I am able to immortalize places, lovers, feelings and moments that are ultimately passing through me like the wind.
